Blues Booksis a self initiated branding project for a Jazz Bookstore that moonlights as a Jazz Club.

Kenneth Burrell Midnight Blue Album Cover

The brand design for this bookstore was originally inspired by Blue Note album art and typography.The color palette is inspired by the Kenny Burrell Midnight Blue album cover.I had fun finding inspiration from Reid Miles' Blue Note album design and creating a backstory for this bookstore/nightclub.

The original type logo borrows similar typographic style from the midnight blue album cover, but also adds the full book store name handwritten by me. The handwritten title adds nostalgia to the type logo but is also a nod to music written in composition books.

The picture logo for Blues Books expands on the iconic Blue Note logo with its simple shapes and refigures it with a oval reminiscent of music notes in between a set of books. Below is the color palette used.

Illustrated image of John Coltrane — This illustrated logo is another nostalgic touch. Based on an image of John Coltrane reading in a chair while holding his saxophone was perfect for this iconic third place.
